Navoiuran SE has a structural subdivision, the purpose of which is to produce the main reagent for uranium mining - sulphuric acid. The Sulphuric Acid Production Shop (SAPS) is located on the territory of the Uchkuduk production site; the raw material for the production of the reagent is technical sulphur supplied from oil and gas processing enterprises of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The capacity of SAPS is 505 thousand tonnes per year, and in addition to uranium mining units, sulphuric acid is supplied to JSC NMMC, JSC Navoiyazot, JSC Navoi TPP, as well as other consumers.
Over 13.4 million tonnes of sulphuric acid have been produced since 1985. The stable performance of CPSC is ensured by technical re-equipment and modernisation of production. For example, in 2016, a 6 MW steam turbine unit from Indian company Triven Turbines Ltd was launched, which allowed the shop to generate 80 per cent of electricity consumed for its own needs.Vanadium catalysts used in the production of sulphuric acid have also found their application. A pilot plant has been set up at the production site to process the entire volume of spent vanadium catalyst to the finished product vanadium pentoxide (V2O5).Prospective plans for the development of the uranium mining industry include the expansion of the CPSC's production capacity by 1.3 times.
