Sulfuric Acid Production Workshop — 40 Years of Development

The contribution of the State Enterprise “Navoiyuran” to the industrial and energy potential of our country is truly invaluable. An important place in the structure of the enterprise is occupied by the “Uchkuduk” Production Complex, within which the Sulfuric Acid Production Workshop stands as one of Uzbekistan’s first major chemical facilities. It was commissioned on October 20, 1985.

The main task of the workshop is to ensure the domestic production of sulfuric acid, which is used in the technological process of uranium extraction, as well as to supply this important chemical reagent to the industrial sectors of the republic. At the time of its launch, the production capacity was 500,000 tons per year — a level that has been steadily maintained to this day.

Stable Production and Modernization

Over the 40 years of operation, the workshop has produced more than 15.4 million tons of sulfuric acid. The product is supplied to the geotechnological mines of “Navoiyuran”, the hydrometallurgical plants of NMMC JSC, as well as to chemical and energy enterprises in the industrial zone of the Navoi region.

In 2011, a complete reconstruction of the main technological units and equipment was carried out, which made it possible to restore the design capacity and improve operational efficiency. Between 2014 and 2024, production plans were consistently fulfilled at 101–105 percent. In the anniversary year of 2025, plan fulfillment is expected to reach 107.8 percent — a clear result of the team’s responsibility and dedication to their work.

Innovation and Localization

In recent years, the workshop has been actively implementing localization and innovation programs. For the drying and absorption department, new 900XNG-5-5-M11/25G-9-2 cooling units have been manufactured, and modern melting units have been installed in the sulfuric acid section. Condensers and noise suppressors have been introduced, allowing the reuse of exhaust steam and reducing water consumption.

Additionally, a heating and hot water supply system has been developed that utilizes secondary steam. For the needs of geotechnological mines, the workshop has established production of “Extruder” devices and polyethylene pipes.

Currently, projects on technical re-equipment and automation are being consistently implemented. The automated control systems of technological processes are being upgraded in accordance with modern standards.

Scientific Research and New Technological Solutions

The workshop’s specialists are conducting scientific research on extracting valuable elements from industrial waste. In laboratory conditions, a technology for producing vanadium pentoxide from spent vanadium catalysts has been developed. This direction will, in the future, enable more efficient use of raw materials and the development of new types of products.

The Foundation of Success — Labor and Dedication

All achievements and high performance indicators of the workshop are the result of the hard work and devotion of engineers, technicians, and workers. The management of the “Uchkuduk” Production Complex, the workshop’s leadership, and its team of specialists work harmoniously and professionally, making a worthy contribution to the sustainable development of “Navoiyuran” State Enterprise.

Forty years represent not only industrial success but also a history of experience, teamwork, and scientific-technical progress. Today, the Sulfuric Acid Production Workshop continues to strengthen the industrial potential of the country, introducing new technologies and relying on the dedication of its specialists — making a significant contribution to the development of the New Uzbekistan.
