Navoiyuran Commences Commercial Uranium Production at the Qizilkok Deposit
Qizilkok set to contribute 1,200 tonnes per year to Navoiyuran’s annual production
Navoiyuran, one of the world’s largest uranium mining companies and the leading low-cost producer of natural uranium, announces the start of mining at the Qizilkok deposit, located in the Navoi region of Uzbekistan.
Key characteristics of the Qizilkok deposit1:
- Mineral resources: 10.9 thousand tonnes of uranium
- Ore reserves: 9.4 thousand tonnes of uranium
- Project mine life: 15 years
Qizilkok is the third-largest deposit in Navoiyuran’s portfolio, following the Sugrali (20.8 thousand tonnes of reserves) and Uchkuduk (14.8 thousand tonnes of reserves) deposits, and has further potential for expansion to the north.
The Qizilkok deposit is being developed using a low-reagent in-situ leaching (“ISL”) oxygen technology actively advanced by Navoiyuran, which increases uranium recovery while reducing production costs by 2–3 times. The International Atomic Energy Authority considers ISL technology to have environmental and safety advantages over conventional mining and milling, and the Company believes its ISL extraction method is the least environmentally impactful technology used by the sector.
Djamal Sabakhonovich Fayzullayev, General Director of Navoiyuran, commented:
“Pilot industrial operations at the deposit began in December 2024, and over two years of active work, the Company has reached the stage of commercial production. The start of ore mining at the deposit marks another step in the implementation of the Company’s strategy, focused on increasing uranium production and strengthening its mineral resource base, in line with Uzbekistan’s state programme to expand uranium mining and processing volumes through 2030.
In 2025, Navoiyuran’s production reached 7,000 tonnes of natural uranium. The Qizilkok deposit, with a projected mine life of 15 years and an annual production capacity of 1.2 thousand tonnes of uranium, will play a key role both in supporting future production growth and in contributing to regional economic development.”
- About Navoiyuran
Navoiyuran is one of the world’s largest uranium mining companies and the leading low-cost producer of natural uranium, headquartered in the Navoi region, Uzbekistan. The company is currently the sixth-largest uranium producer globally, operating 43 uranium deposits with a mineral
1 based on preliminary JORC-compliant data
resource base of 151.1 thousand tonnes of uranium, including 96.6 thousand tonnes of ore reserves under JORC standards, and has a strong track record of continuing to expand its resource base.
Navoiyuran plays a strategic role in Uzbekistan’s mining sector and the global nuclear fuel supply chain, supporting stable uranium production as Uzbekistan continues to rank among the world’s leading uranium producers.
- Qizilkok
The Qizilkok area is situated in the eastern part of the Central Kyzylkum Desert, between the Tamdytau mountain range to the north, the Arystantau range to the southeast, and the Amantau range to the south.
The Qizilkok prospective area comprises four license blocks: Amantau (northwestern part), Myutenbay (northeastern part), Qizilkok (southeastern part), and Yuzhny (southern part).
Under the project, all of these license blocks are integrated into a single prospective area, “Qizilkok”.
